My Day of Golf at the Marriott Desert Springs

By Mitchell Sussman

The Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert, California is one of the most fun and scenic resort golf courses in the California desert. The courses are the two 18 - hole beauties set up for the resort visitor. I recently had the opportunity to play this course with out of town guests who were staying at the massive desert hotel which has long been the crown jewel in the Marriott chain.

Designed by acclaimed golf architect Ted Robinson's who is known as 'King of Waterscapes' the 'Palm' and the 'Valley' courses are beautifully landscaped. But there is more than just water and landscape to these two courses.

The two courses were created to provide golfers of all ages and abilities an enjoyable round. The course is littered with bunkers, water hazards and strategically placed trees and the greens are well maintained.

On the two days that I played, the staff provided our four some with newer high tech drive golf carts with state-of-the-art navigational and computing systems. The cars were equipped with on- board GPS computer systems which provide graphic layouts of each hole and computes exact yardage to the pin.

The pro shop had Taylor made clubs for rent, so my playing partner who was flying in to the desert didn't have to drag his clubs through the airport. If you have a swing like Charles Barkley or are simply looking for more distance, there is also a Taylor Made Performance Lab directly across from the pro shop

We ordered lunch as we tee off from the 18th hole and it was waiting for us at Sand Trap & Wedge restaurant. They had a nice menu of sandwiches and drink and when we were done we sat around and talked about the round.

While the boys spend the day on the golf course, the girls can have a spa day at the Spa Desert Springs which is one of the top spas in the desert.

After our day of golf and the ladies day of beauty, I showered and returned with my wife for a dinner at the Japanese styled restaurant the Mikado.

On your next vacation to Palm Springs and the desert resort cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells and La Quinta I highly recommend spending at least one day golfing at the Marriott Desert Springs.
